Invitation: Witness live demos of floating offshore wind turbine model tests at DHI HQ

20 June 2017, Tuesday 14:00-15:00, DHI headquarters in Denmark

Interested in seeing the latest developments in the offshore wind industry? Here’s your chance!

What: Model tests of the TetraSpar floating wind turbine foundation with a 10MW floating offshore wind turbine
When: 20 June 2017, Tuesday 14:00-15:00
Where: DHI, Agern Allé 5, 2970 Hørsholm

DTU Wind Energy, DHI and Stiesdal Offshore Technology A/S are currently testing Henrik Stiesdal’s TetraSpar floating foundation concept in the DHI offshore wave basin. Henrik Stiesdal is a renowned Danish inventor and former Chief Technology Officer at Siemens Wind Power who has worked with wind energy technologies since the later 1970s.

The 1:60 scale model tests are carried out using DTU’s 10MW scale model pitch-controlled wind turbine, and two floater configurations are considered. The floating wind turbine is subjected to wind and wave forcing for a number of operational and survival conditions.

The objectives of the model test campaign are to provide a proof-of-concept of the TetraSpar foundation as well as advance experimental testing and data analysis techniques in this area. This is the fourth test campaign involving floating wind turbine foundations carried out in the DHI offshore wave basin with the team from DTU Wind Energy.

All interested persons are welcome. The visit will include a brief introduction, presentation of the experimental setup, demonstration tests with the floating wind turbine and a Q&A session. Sign-up is not required.

Meeting point: Entrance to DHI’s 3D deep water basin (Hal 3) via Venlighedsvej 3.
