Record number of participants for 9th annual DHI Thailand User Group Meeting

The 9th annual MIKE Powered by DHI Thailand User Group Meeting (UGM) was held successfully on 6-7 July 2015 to a record turnout.

More than 150 decision makers, industry experts and water modelling experts from government agencies, consulting companies, research institutes and universities attended the two-day UGM. The event focused on the areas of urban water, marine and water resources, and included a mix of presentations on practical case studies as well as forthcoming features of MIKE software and technologies.

Two parallel training courses in real-time flood forecasting systems using MIKE OPERATIONS and MIKE 21 Flexible Mesh (FM) were conducted by our experts on the second day of the UGM.

On the first day, Torben Strange Jensen, our MIKE Powered by DHI Business Area Manager for Water Resources, and Niels Hvam, our Senior Coastal and Marine Engineer, spoke on the following:
  • MIKE Release 2016 – news and views in the Water Resources, Urban and Marine market areas
  • Advances in flood modelling with MIKE technologies
  • Hydrodynamic set-up of Gulf of Thailand using MIKE 21 FM

Apart from DHI representatives, keynote speakers from Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute, Chulalongkorn University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, and ATT Consultants Co., Ltd. also shared their knowledge on various water modelling related issues and technologies for sustainable management of water resources.

On the second day, Dr Somchai Chonwattana, Hydraulic Engineer from our DHI representation office in Thailand, was the instructor for the real-time flood forecasting course while Niels Hvam conducted the training on MIKE 21 FM for a separate group of participants.

The UGM was exceptionally well-received, attracting many old and new faces from various water-related industries. Some feedback from the participants:

The UGM was held in the ballroom of Amari Watergate Bangkok Hotel.
